Public Cleaning Campaign of Kabul City

24 February 2011 Today Kabul Municipality conducted a public cleaning effort of the city. The campaign covered the twenty-two districts of Kabul. It started early in the morning.

In addition to myself and the leadership team of Kabul Municipality, 3000 sanitation workers, 200 greenery workers, the senior management of the National Employees Union, business people and Kabul citizens took part in this event.
Approximately 2740 cubic meters of solid waste and 190 cubic meters of liquid waste was collected from various locations.

I am happy that I had the opportunity to be part of this effort and I believe it was encouraging for the local people to see their mayor working together with them in cleaning the city.

My objective was to encourage citizens to contribute to and take responsibility of keeping the city clean. The public’s contribution is key to improving life conditions in terms of sanitation, greenery and changing the face of Kabul. Considering the limited resources of the Municipality the citizens' contribution will be a great help to achieve our goals to have a better place to live in.
